Dix-Hallpike maneuver
- Moving a patient from a seated position with the head turned 45 degrees to one side to the head-hanging supine position
Repeated for the other side
- Moves the otoconial debris into an irritating position
After a latency of 1 to 10 seconds, an upbeating and torsional nystagmus with the fast phase of the torsional component towards the affected ear in reference to the upper pole of the eye
- Nystagmus fatigues after 20 to 45 seconds
