Doing many things

I modified my templates recentlly, adding links for RSS 2.0 Feed and categorized RSS Feed. In the same time, I'm arranging next IMTT meet-up, preparing to start a journal for this, and hosting award of this year.

By the way, I have got books of the histories of the Middle-Earth. here are photos.

FeedDemon 1.0 RC-4a

FeedDemon 1.0 RC4a have been released now. The Chinese language files inside are used to be up-to-dated, but now there is a newer Chinese language file available for you.

Audiable PuTTY + screen + irssi

You may use PuTTY to ssh to a remote host, then connect to IRC server via irssi, and keep it alive by using screen, just like me. But I think that less people will resize their PuTTY window into 128 x 14 and keep it on top of desktop (but I do). For those who will switch PuTTY to background, they may like to hear a alert sound when some keywords (e.g., their own ID) appeared on IRC channel.

Here is a tutorial from my friend "asee," which can make this possible:

• Enter the following commend in irssi, to enable irssi making a sounding signal:
  1. /set beep_when_window_active ON
  2. /set beep_when_away ON
  3. /set beep_msg_level MSGS NOTICES DCC DCCMSGS HILIGHT
  4. /set bell_beeps ON

Now you can hear when anyone paging you on IRC channel.

FeedDemon 1.0 RC-3 Chinese localization was updated

I've just updated FeedDemon 1.0 RC-3 Chinese localization. I removed some additional but useless string. (Thanks Dora!) Please get this FeedDemon10RC3-Chinese_lang.zip , extract it and then replace those in your FeedDemon's lang folder.

FeedDemon 1.0 RC-3 was released

Nick Bradbury just release FeedDemon 1.0 Release Candidate 3. Both Traditional and Simplified Chinese language files are included in this version. So you can select Chinese interface and messages when first time starting FeedDemon. Please note:

News items downloaded using earlier releases will be removed after installing RC1. Your watches and news bins will be left intact, but all other channels will be cleared of previously downloaded news items. You have to duplicate important news items into news bin or export them into RSS files to keep them. (Please read Release Notes first.）

2003 Taiwan Free Software Community Awards

Software Liberty Association Taiwan and Institute for Information Industry host "Free Software Community Awards" this year. They will vote The Best Community, The Best Community Website, The Best Community Member, The Best Programmer, The Best Software Localizer, The Best Document Writer or Translator.

You can now porpose some candidates. The porpose will be end at 11/18, and the vote will start at 11/20. The prizewinner list will be announced at 12/20. Please porpose some candidates at some candidateshttp://fssoc.slat.org/. You can help them become stronger then.

FeedDemon 1.0 RC-3 Chinese localization

Nick Bradbury will release FeedDemon 1.0 RC-3 this week, and I have finished Chinese language pack (FD10RC-3-Chinese.rar/FD10RC-3-Chinese.zip). Both those files contained Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese lanugage file for FeedDemon 1.0 RC-3.

These files will be distributed with FeedDemon 1.0 RC-3, so you don't have to download them now. In this version of language file, I modified the term for "News Bin" (suggested by zonble) to make it more fitness. This time the language file are merged into one, and only UTF-8 available.

FeedDemon 1.0 RC-2 Chinese localization

Yesterday (2003/10/27) Nick Bradbury released FeedDemon 1.0 Release Candidate 2, and yes, I finished its Chinese localization today. You can download my FeedDemon10RC2-zh.exe here. It's a windows-style installer contains Traditional Chinese (both BIG-5 and UTF-8) and Simplified Chinese (both GB2312 and UTF-8) language files for FeedDemon 1.0 Beta 6, and will put those files into correct directory. If you don't need this installer interface, please get FeedDemon10RC2-zh.rar/FeedDemon10RC2-zh.zip, or find individual file at http://p4.elixus.org/member/Jedi/l10n/FeedDemon/1.0RC-2/.

If you're using FeedDemon early then Beta 6, please note:

Integrate FeedDemon with Movable Type

According to the report from Nick Bradbury's Blog yesterday (2003/10/27), Jakub Kazecki provied a method how to use MT bookmarklet within FeedDemon. This can enable you posting to Movable Type directly from FeedDemon.

Drop Array IME

As mentioned before, I switched into Array IME for Dvorak. But I changed my mind again and back to Going IME now. Array IME is not bad but not good enough for my purporse.

What do I need? I need a Chinese IME which doesn't relay on English keyboard layout or can work fine with Dvorak. I need it works like Dvorak when typing in Chinese-English combinations and symbols, or when displaying visual feedback.

Array IME is good and easy to learn. Just two days I can type seven words per minute (twenty minutes a word in the beginning). But its symbol-input was designed by QWERTY. It also displaies QWERTY as visual feedback.

Besides, I am used to think with pronunciation rather then penmanship of words. I have to stop and then recall penmanship all the time when using Array IME.

Now I have to tweak Going into Dvorak.

Dvorak and Array Chinese Input Method

With quite long a concerning, I've switch keyboard layout from QWETRY to Dvorak. The QWERTY is named by first row layout of keyboard many people may use; while Dvorak is a simplified keyboard layout developed by August Dvorak and William Dealey during 1920s to 1930s.

Dvorak is better then QWERTY. It is designed by English spelling structure. You will get higher accurity, much balanced keystrike of both hands, shorter movement distance of fingers (about 1/20 of QWERTY). So your fingers will be much comfortable and healthy if you are using Dvorak.

There are also one-hand Dvorak layouts desiged for people who can only use one hand. This is good to people like me because I'll hold my leaptop with one hand and type with the other.

Sure it's not too easy.

New place to host this meet-up is called "一元堂" which can contain more participators. We'll cut technical issue and focus on "blog" itself this time. If you have some good ideas/thought to share, also please apply to us!

Modify my MT templates

I've just modified templates used here. The main change include position of cross/inter-site navigation bar and icons for categories. This will make main body of each page appears first, and user interface alike in each pages. I also change some length unit into em which is relative leangth unit and will make up better layout when user use their own font size settings.

First IMTT curtained

Enable Windows' IPv6 support

There is always undocumented feature on Windows. If you are using Windows 2000 SP4 (or above) or Windows XP, you can enable IPv6 support by entering this under cmd.exe:

ipv6 install

Installing AWStats

Due to hlb's asking, I installed AWStats on this server followed this tour.

I want to keep my visitors feel comfortable with keeping their own privacy. That's the reason why I remove all statistics those may expose visitors' privacy data such like original IP. This statisitcs result will be updated daily. You can see all statistics at http://jedi.org/cgi-bin/awstats.pl .

hlb and I will host a meet-up called "Inspiration Makes Technique be Together."

This meet-up will be hosted at COZY Café (Taipei, Taiwan; near National Taiwan Normal University) on every Sunday. We will discuss technique about HTML/XHTML and CSS.
